Health & Safety

Committed to High Standards

Space Engineering Services is committed to the highest level of health and safety standards, on site and in its own workplace, and has been audited and approved by the Safe Contractor scheme. We work in accordance with HSE guidelines and government regulations, and keep up to date with changing legislation. Regular site audits are carried out to ensure compliance.

Full Time Health and Safety Manager

We have a full time qualified Health and Safety Manager and Health and Safety Advisors. All are members of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and members of the British Refrigeration Association (BRA) Health and Safety Committee.

Health and Safety Policy and Risk Assessment and Procedure Manual

Our Health and Safety policy sets down a framework which will deliver and maintain the control of health and safety. In addition, we have produced a comprehensive full risk assessment / procedure manual covering refrigeration, mechanical and electrical works, and guidelines for general operations and procedures. This is held by all engineers, along with a copy of the COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) manual.

Priority Training

Health and Safety is given priority from the day an employee starts with the company and is included in their induction.

All our refrigeration engineers are qualified in the safe handling of refrigerant, and other materials and equipment required to carry out their jobs. All our mechanical engineers are CORGI registered.

Each engineer is sent on the SPA Food and Drink Safety Passport Course, which is backed by the Institution for Occupational Safety & Health. This allows our service engineers to work safely in all food and drink establishments.

Where appropriate, our engineers will attend other courses within the IOSH Safety Passport Alliance, for example the Petrol Retail course for service engineers working in forecourt environments.

All our Project Managers attend the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) 5 day Site Safety Management Training Scheme which ensures good knowledge for Risk Assessing, Method Statements and Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.

All staff working on construction sites have a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) engineering 'skillcard'. This card proves that they have received Health and Safety training and have the correct qualifications required to carry out their job.
