The fabulous bakery boys
When Tamar Foods, part of the Samworth Brothers Group based in Callington, Cornwall, won several new customers, in the form of some of the UK’s largest supermarkets, and needed to expand their bakery facilities, they knew who to call to help them.
The aim of this major project was to increase production of the savoury products produced by Tamar Foods, and involved the construction of an extension to the bakery and the purchase of new state of the art equipment.
A total solution
Space Engineering Services worked with Tamar Foods from the centre of the bakery to the most outer-point – from the plant to the cooling towers. We were tasked with designing, sourcing and installing the ventilation system, all the water services that feed the bakery, the production areas, the spiral chillers, and the plant to run the machinery and refrigeration.
One of the most significant requirements within this project was to extend and update the cooling system. Previously the bakery relied on a conventional air cool condenser system, but we advised on moving away from this and installed cooling towers, a more environmentally friendly and cost effective solution for Tamar Foods.
This large scale project was made all the more challenging by the absolute necessity that the bakery remained fully operational during construction, whilst also ensuring that Tamar Foods continued to maintain the highest environmental, health and safety and hygiene standards. Space Engineering Services were more than happy to oblige with this through working out of hours and over weekends, and provided reassurance to Tamar Foods by ensuring that all project managers and engineers on site had completed the S.P.A food and drink safety management training course.
