Bristol based Space Engineering Services is fitting the first Capstone micro turbine to run on renewable bio fuel in the UK. The bio-fuel chp unit is to be fitted at the three star Ponsbourne Park Hotel in Hertfordshire as part of an upgrade programme of the existing boilers.
Fuelled by B100 bio-diesel made from Rapeseed, Jatropha, Soya and used cooking oil, the unit generates the base electrical load of 65kw to the Hotel. The waste heat is utilised in the heat system reducing the running of the conventional boilers, heating the hotel and hot water supply as well as heating the outdoor swimming pool.
Dave Canning, National M&E Commercial Manager, of Space Engineering Services commented: "The Hotel are keen to employ a low carbon and renewable energy solution. This unit will be able to run for virtually 24 hours a day seven days a week giving maximum benefit to the hotel and minimum impact on the environment."
The bio-fuel Capstone micro turbine was supplied by Cogenco.
