Mechanical Installation Dobbies Garden Centre

As part of a main contract build for one of our clients, Space Engineering Services were awarded the Mechanical Installation for the new Dobbies Garden Centre in Tewkesbury.

A packaged plant room was provided within the external plant area.  This incorporated a gas fired water heater, HWS pump, cold water booster set, break tank, control panel, frost control heater, all overflows / warning pipes and drains.  To allow the plant room to function automatically as an integral part of the buildings HVAC systems, all necessary interfaces were made.

Two primary AHU’s were installed for the provision of tempered fresh air to the store.  One serviced the main sales floor area, with the other serving the restaurant seating and soft play area.  Each external packaged AHU is a gas-fired unit with heat recovery via a plate heat exchanger, and included integral control panels which use Trend to interface with the overall building control systems and BMS.  For fresh air supply to back of house and all staff areas, a heat recovery unit was installed.

The supply and extract ductwork was run at high level throughout the warehouse and terminated onto bellmouth arrangements complete with mesh grilles.  The restaurant seating AHU ductwork was installed in flat oval within the exposed areas with the air supply provided via adjustable double deflection type diffusers complete with VCD’s.  VRF Air Conditioning systems were installed to the restaurant, soft play area, community room and coffee shop, with 4-way blow cassette units at high level.  Heat Pump split AC systems were installed to serve the main tills area, managers office, admin office and staff room.

Local extract ductwork was provided to the Butcher and Deli areas, comprising of a single fan extract unit discharging to atmosphere via a roof mounted cowl.  A single fan toilet extract system was provided for the customer toilets area with local extract systems to the remote access WC and baby change within the soft play area.

A dedicated extract system was provided to the restaurant kitchen via a floor mounted variable speed extract fan with fire rated ductwork.  A supply fan, complete with electric heater battery and intake cowl for the provision of tempered fresh air, was also installed.  All kitchen ductwork and ventilation systems were complete and installed in accordance with DW172.

All mechanical plant was interfaced with the fire alarm system, enabling a shutdown of the plant in the event of a confirmed fire condition.  Where ductwork passed through fire compartments, and fire walls, fire dampers were installed.

A successful installation with the site fully opened and operational within the programme time scales.
