M&S Food Hall Refrigeration Replacement

As part of a competitive tender process, Space Engineering successfully secured the multi phased upgrade works for an existing M&S retail site in Fosse Park.

One of the major phase of works was for the renewal of their existing refrigeration systems and sales area display cabinets.

This phase of the project involved the installation of two Space Engineering HT/LT R744(CO₂) Booster Packs in individual reach in housings, along with Kelvion Gas Coolers.  These were installed externally in the roof plant area on a new plant deck.  The packs serve all the remote HT & LT cabinets, chilled and frozen cold rooms.  Refrigeration DT1 & DT2 pack units are set to an SST -7°C to suit the new EPTA Lion (TL1) Cabinets and an SST set to -7.5°C for systems incorporating the new EPTA Velvet SV Studio cabinets.

As part of the project, all of the existing refrigeration plant needed to be de-commissioned in line with the phasing plan of the new equipment.  These included two close coupled units, HT Pack 1 and HT Pack C – running all remote HT cabinets and HT cold rooms.  Two x LT condensing units operating the frozen cold room and the ZC1 condensing unit.  The existing chilled and frozen cold rooms were replaced with new rooms and associated refrigeration equipment.

All new remote & integral display cabinets integrated into the store, were supplied and installed to the client specification.  Each Cabinet was supplied and fitted with, expansion & shut off valves along with cabinet controllers.  A new IP VLan Alarm network was installed, using a new RDM front end PC and Data Manager.  The two DT-HT/LT Multi compressor packs have RDM monitoring and added to the network.

A full CO2 gas leak detection system was installed and connected to the refrigeration alarm network.  Beacons, sounders, and signage for the leak detection system were also supplied and installed.

Working in a live environment, Space carried out the works with minimal impact on the shopping environment.
