Hours of work

37.5 hours each week

Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm


Pucklechurch (Bristol). Flexible between office and home


As a Design Engineer, you will be supporting Space Engineering Services through design, procurement and implementation of manufacturing refrigeration plants. Including involvement in the development of products, quality processes and procedures.

The purpose of the role is to…

  • Assist engineering staff in all areas of designing, developing and testing of refrigeration system design, thermodynamics and heat transfer knowledge
  • Assist and manage the development of existing projects
  • Liaising with customers to understand and outline product specifications and requirements
  • Develop the design package for projects and ensure quality standards and best practice are met
  • Develop and control quality standards and procedures to British Standards or best practice


What you’ll be doing…

  • Expanding knowledge of the basic refrigeration cycle
  • Expanding knowledge of materials
  • Expanding knowledge of thermodynamics
  • Expanding knowledge of refrigeration systems using CO2 and other refrigerants
  • Conducting product and material selections
  • Overseeing design development of new products
  • Coordinating with suppliers for best-fit products
  • Monitoring and analyse store operation and report findings
  • Organizing and attending meetings. Completing minutes where applicable
  • Working with CAD software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Checking quality documentation and traceability
  • Working within a quality management system
  • Working alongside the MRP system
  • Be able to work in a small team and be flexible to demands. Coping with more than one project at a time

We’d love to meet someone with…

  • Completed or studying Mechanical Engineering at bachelor’s degree level or similar.
  • Good IT skills, experience with CAD design software.
  • Willingness to learn in multiple areas of interest
  • Able to work independently and solve problems.
  • Professional approach and attitude to work
  • Highly self-reliant, motivated and enthusiastic
  • Approachable, open and able to work as part of a team
  • Good communication, customer care and interpersonal skills
