Cool Science a sizzling success

Inspiring tomorrow’s engineers, scientists, technologists and mathematicians, the Cool Science Initiative showcased the fun side of refrigeration at this year’s Big Bang Fair to an audience of over 75,000 young people.

The Big Bang Fair, which took place 11th to 15th March at Birmingham’s NEC, was a huge success, featuring 170 interactive displays as well as shows and workshops to promote careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to young people.

Featuring a bicycle-powered fridge, experiments with dry ice, and a thermal imaging camera, the Cool Science stand was a real hit with visitors, and provided a great opportunity to engage young people in the many exciting and rewarding opportunities that science provides.

The Cool Science stand was staffed by over 30 young Engineer volunteers from RACHP companies, keen to share their knowledge and experience in the industry with visitors, encouraging them to ask questions and telling them how to find out more about careers in the sector.

The Institute of Refrigeration’s (IOR) President Graeme Maidment came along to help out at the stand, and was impressed with what was achieved; “Cool Science was a fantastic success and it gave us as an industry the opportunity to show large numbers of young people that we are a brilliant career choice. This initiative was only possible because of the support that it received from the sponsors and I would like to thank everyone who volunteered and sponsored the show, especially Chris Vallis and his team at AB Refrigeration who came up with the whole concept of Cool Science and made it happen.”

The Cool Science Initiative was organised by AB Refrigeration with the support of the IOR’s Presidents’ Fund, the British Refrigeration Association, Space Engineering Services, Dean & Wood, ECH Engineering, ebm-papst, Mitsubishi Electric, Carel, Danfoss, Harp, and GEA Searle.

Space Engineering Services is proud to support the Cool Science Initiative and its objective to encourage more young people to consider choosing a career in the RACHP industry. We regularly have vacancies in our Engineering teams, and we’re always looking for talented individuals to join our dynamic company.
