Tesco Ireland and Field Engineers Visit Space Engineering for Specialist Training and Collaboration

Tesco Ireland and Field Engineers Visit Space Engineering for Specialist Training and Collaboration

22 Apr 2025

On 15th and 16th April, Space Engineering Services had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Tesco Ireland, including Harry Flatman, Regional Maintenance Manager, and Peter Kennedy, Energy Manager. They were joined by nine field engineers from Cross Refrigeration and Refrigeration Solutions for a two-day, hands-on training session at our Pucklechurch manufacturing site in Bristol.

The visit provided a fantastic opportunity to share technical knowledge, discuss system innovations, and foster deeper collaboration between our organisations. The sessions were designed and delivered by our in-house experts, offering practical insights into the operation, servicing, and commissioning of refrigeration packs.

Key Topics Covered:

Over the two days, the training covered a wide range of technical subjects, including:

  • High Pressure Valve Control
  • General Pack Control & Receiver Valve Functionality
  • IT Compressor Control
  • Heat Recovery Systems
  • Fault-Finding Procedures
  • Warranty Protocols
  • Quality Control Enhancements
  • RDM TDB PLC Programming Demonstrations

In addition to these discussions, attendees explored live demos and real-world applications, such as reviewing an RDM-controlled pack in operation at a nearby customer site (Danish Crown) and witnessing a pack on test within the workshop using Danfoss controls.

Hands-On Learning:

Participants also engaged in practical sessions covering:

  • Interpreting Wiring and PID Diagrams for current and future packs
  • Understanding the Commissioning Procedure
  • Servicing key components such as separator filters, drier cores, and strainers
  • A detailed tour of our workshop, showcasing our approach to manufacturing and quality control
  • Data sharing on recent improvements to our manufacturing procedures and build stages

Collaboration in Action:

The training created an open forum for insightful discussions, problem-solving, and mutual learning. Attendees brought thoughtful questions and real-world scenarios that enriched the sessions and deepened the value of the experience for all involved.

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees described the training as highly worthwhile, informative, and relevant to their day-to-day operations. The depth of technical expertise and the collaborative atmosphere were especially appreciated.

“It was incredibly beneficial to see the systems in action and have direct access to the people behind the engineering. The knowledge shared will absolutely support us in the field,” said one of the attendees.

Looking Ahead:

At Space Engineering Services, we’re deeply committed to fostering strong partnerships and advancing knowledge across the industry. Visits like this not only strengthen our relationships but also reinforce our shared goal of delivering reliable, energy-efficient, and future-ready refrigeration solutions.

We firmly believe that the best performance starts with the right training. That’s why we actively encourage Space-trained engineers to work on our packs and systems – ensuring consistent quality, in-depth understanding, and long-term reliability. Our packs are built with precision, and we want the same level of expertise maintained throughout their lifecycle, from commissioning to service and maintenance.

Our in-house specialists – many of whom are industry veterans – bring extensive hands-on knowledge when it comes to the servicing, diagnostics, and optimisation of refrigeration packs. Their insights not only drive our internal innovation but also empower our partners with practical know-how in the field.

As pioneers and leading manufacturers of CO₂ refrigeration packs, we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Innovation is in our DNA, and we remain focused on designing sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the food retail and cold chain sectors. The training session served as a valuable platform to share these advancements and get meaningful feedback from those using our systems daily.

We’re genuinely excited about the prospect of hosting more training sessions like this in the future – where hands-on learning meets collaborative thinking. These opportunities are not just about knowledge transfer; they’re about building trust, driving efficiency, and collectively raising the bar across the industry.

A heartfelt thank you to Harry Flatman and Peter Kennedy from Tesco Ireland, and the team of engineers from Cross Refrigeration, and Refrigeration Solutions for their enthusiasm, engagement, and thoughtful contributions over the two days. We thoroughly enjoyed having you at our site and look forward to more opportunities to work and grow together.

Here’s to continued collaboration and engineering excellence!
