Two Young Apprentices to Compete at RACHP Skills Competition

Two Young Apprentices to Compete at RACHP Skills Competition

06 Jun 2019

We’re delighted to announce that after an extensive preliminary selection process, two Space Engineering Services apprentices have secured places in the SkillFRIDGE regional heats taking place at Bath College on 11th June.

Liam Cunningham and Sidney Copus are among a small number of engineers taking part in the event next week, which is a national competition that recognises the talents of tomorrow’s leaders in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) industry.

Next week’s regional heat, one of several taking place around the UK, will consist of skill-specific challenges testing competitors’ theoretical knowledge, practical skill and time management. Judges will be overseeing Sidney and Liam’s work to determine who will make it through to the WorldSkills UK Final which takes place in November at Birmingham’s NEC.

The annual competition aims to connect young people with the RACHP industry – promoting the variety of exciting careers available – and provide a platform for aspiring engineers to grow to their full potential, cultivating a strong and innovative workforce to lead the industry into the future. Putting the RACHP industry clearly in the limelight, SkillFRIDGE gives up-and-coming engineers a fantastic opportunity demonstrate their talent.

Sidney and Liam are two of seven apprentices who are currently working towards their Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2 at Bath College’s Department of Technology, supported by Space Engineering Services. The apprentices have recently completed their first 12 months of a two-year intensive learning and development programme during which they’ve gained in-depth technical knowledge and hands on experience towards becoming qualified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers and have shown exceptional potential.

We’d like to wish Sidney and Liam the best of luck for the regional heats and congratulate them for reaching this point in the competition, well done both!
